What are the different types of bottles I can buy?
*
Standard bottles are tall and slim with narrow necks.
*
Wide-necked, squat bottles are easy to fill and fit most breast pumps.
*
Angled bottles have a 30º angle. Some find this a more comfortable feeding position for the baby.
How many bottles do I need?
If you're bottlefeeding from day one, you'll need six to eight bottles. If you're breastfeeding you may need a couple for the occasional feed of expressed milk.
Silicone or latex teats?
*
Latex teats are softer than silicone, but need replacing every four to six weeks.
*
Silicone teats are transparent and more hard-wearing.
What flow?
*
Slow-flow teats tend to be best for very young babies to control milk flow.
*
Medium flow provides a steady, controlled flow for babies with a faster suction.
*
Vari-flow allows a baby to control the rate with her sucking action.
*
Fast-flow is best after six months.

What you get: A wide-necked bottle with silicone vari-flow teat, sealing cap and lid.
Paula, mum to Sam, 6 months, says: “I've used this bottle design for all three of my babies. The chunky shape means it's easy to hold, while the wide neck makes filling and cleaning simple. I like the clear measurement guides, too.”

Lindam Feeding Bottle, £3.99 for 250ml size.
What you get: A curved bottle, button to control milk flow, silicone teat and cap.
Amanda, mum to Cameron, 8 months, says: “The design means the bottle is easy to hold - but it can be a bit fiddly fitting it in the steriliser. I like the fact that the button releases the air vacuum, which helps reduce colic.”

Rachel, mum to Matthew, 2 months, says: “I like the angled neck of this bottle, as it makes it easier to feed a tiny baby. The teat is soft, and the shape is nice for a newborn mouth. The bottom of the bottle comes off, so it's easy to clean, but it only just fitted into my steriliser.”
